Beats off competition from PSP and DS games in the annual BAFTA Game Awards.
Chillingo and Zeptolab will have sore heads this morning after their Cut The Rope iOS game won a prestigious BAFTA Game Award in London.
The game - developed by Zeptolab and published by Chillingo - has sold more than six million copies for iPhone and iPad, and was nominated in the Handheld category at this year's event.
Its victory is significant, since it was up against competition from DS and PSP games. Traditionally, games industry awards have tended to hive mobile games off into their own category, if they are included at all.
"Cut The Rope has been nothing short of a phenomenon on the iOS platform and we're delighted it's been recognised by the British Academy," says Chris Byatte, co-general manager of Chillingo. The publisher was acquired by Electronic Arts last year, but remains an independent unit focusing on casual smartphone games.
