Chairman of Emblaze jailed

Eli Reifman gets 45 days for contempt of court after failing to hand over 39 million Emblaze shares.

The chair of the Israeli firm, which owns push email specialist Emoze, has been fighting a court case for most of the year. It's been a contentious one, with allegations of organised crime links thrown in.

Indeed, Reifman claims to have been shot at and had a molotov cocktail thrown at him in the last few days.

Hedge fund CCM says Reifman owes it £5.1 million for the purchase of Emblaze shares, and submitted a bankruptcy petition against Reifman when it wasn't forthcoming. New York's Rockmore Investment Master Fund has submitted a similar petition.

Reifman's attorney argued in a hearing that his client owes the funds nothing.

It's been a bad-tempered case, with Judge Varda Alshech referring to Reifman's evasiveness thus: "Do they think that an unthinking robot without any judgment is conducting this trial?"
