Cellufun launches FunCoin virtual currency globally

Mobile social game publisher rolls initiative out across 25 countries

Cellufun community members can now buy FunCoins to purchase virtual goods, and charge the purchase to their mobile phone bill.

The goods up for grabs include virtual clothes, jewelry, furniture, pets and flirts.

Cellufun says it integrates directly with mobile operators and payment providers to make FunCoins available globally.

It says coverage includes North America, most of the European Union, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, South Africa, Thailand, and Turkey. Cellufun will soon allow payments in South America and China.

Neil Edwards, CEO of Cellufun, said: “We’ve recently launched mobile payments in over two dozen countries, eliminating almost overnight the key obstacles that have prevented virtual goods from exploding on mobile to date. We sold 2.5 million virtual goods within three months of launching them in the US, so we have no doubt that there is global consumer demand as well.”
