CDMA ops 'will be first' with WiMAX

CDMA ops 'will be first' with WiMAX

That's according to the CDMA Development Group, which says 3G just ain't enough nowadays.

Mobile operators that use CDMA network technologies will be among the first to take up wider bandwidth OFDM–based technology solutions, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Mobile WiMAX.

The CDMA Development Group says the high-speed EV-DO networks being deployed by many CDMA2000-based operators will be complemented by even higher bandwidth technologies.

The CDG says LTE and WiMAX won't replace 3G, however. It says the majority of LTE and WiMAX networks will initially be deployed in highly populated metropolitan areas to satisfy the increasing demand for high-capacity broadcast and broadband data services.

Globally, CDMA operators added 25 million EV-DO users during 2Q08, representing a 33 per cent annual increase.  There are now over 100 million subscribers using CDMA2000 1xEV-DO services across 123 operators in 62 countries.
