CBS Interactive has announced its mobile plans for the new series of US reality TV show Survivor. It includes a mobile website and native Palm Pre application.
The site and app offer episode and preview clips from the show, let fans access the Survivor Fantasy game that's been launched on CBS' website, take part in weekly sweepstakes, and view photos, biographies and interviews with the show's contestants.
The Palm Pre app offers a significant extra, though: the ability to stream full episodes of the TV show over the air.
It's an example of how broadcasters are seeing apps as the next big mobile extension for their major shows. However, why Pre and not the iPhone?
It seems that CBS has done a deal with US operator Sprint for Survivor, hence launching on Palm's smartphone rather than rival platforms. It's good for Palm, but not so good for fans of the show who haven't bought a Pre.
