Casual attitude from I-play

I-play survey talks up potential for cross-platform casual gaming.

A survey conducted by I-play says 38 per cent of casual online gamers would play games on their mobile phones, while 45 per cent would play their favorite online games on mobile devices if they were made available.

I-play is owned by Oberon, which says its key strategy is to cross-pollinate I-play's mobile audience with its own online casual games services.

The findings come from a poll of 1,000 online casual games players visiting partner game sites served by Oberon during September.

When asked whether they played games on their mobile phones 22 per cent said ‘yes’ and 16 per cent said ‘sometimes’. I-play says the combined 38 per cent compares favorably to the industry average of 20.5 per cent of North Americans who play a mobile game on their handset each month, according to figures from M:Metrics.

David Gosen, president of I-play, said: "The frequency with which online casual gamers play is noteworthy and the fact that this group have twice the propensity to play mobile games as the average mobile user is hugely exciting and positive for the mobile games industry."
