Nokia still top dog.
This weekend, Strategy Analytics reported that global smartphone shipments hit 54 million in Q1, up 50% year-on-year. Now rival analyst Canalys begs to differ.
Its figures claim that smartphone shipments were 55.2 million in Q1, up 67% year-on-year.
The company awards Nokia a 38.8% market share for its 21.4 million shipments, followed by RIM's 19.2% (10.6m) and Apple's 15.9% (8.8m).
HTC comes fourth with a market share of 5.1% based on 2.8 million shipments, followed by Motorola's 4.7% based on 2.6 million.
Canalys highlights Nokia's success in selling touchscreen smartphones around the world.

"For the first time, touch-screens represented over 50% of Nokia’s smart phone shipments this quarter, which were historically dominated by the keypad-based candy bar form factors," says Canalys' Chris Jones.
The report also picks up rapid smartphone growth in Latin America and the Asia Pacific regions.
