Mtech wants to create a mobile content association in its home country, Nigeria
The content provider has formed WASPAN (the Wireless Applications Service Provider Association for Nigeria) and is appealing for other companies in the value chain to join. It believes a collective entity is needed to educate both public and industry – and develop a code of conduct.Chika Nwobi, MD of Mtech, told ME: “We’ve been in business since 2001 and we’ve seen a lot of progress made in mobile content. But there’s still a long way to go in terms of making consumers aware of what’s out there and how to get it. I think an industry body could help.”
Although Mtech is a big presence in Nigeria, it recently expanded into Kenya, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Benin. Last week, the company revealed it would bring mobile Premier League highlights to Africa for the first time.
