BuzzCity releases BlackBerry SDK

Gives developers option to add in-app ads for RIM devices.

BuzzCity, which runs one of the biggest ad networks in emerging markets, says the move will give developers the chance to earn revenue on a ‘per click’ basis . It currently serves 4.5 billion ads per month.

In addition, developers can take advantage of BuzzCity’s media properties such as the games portal, Djuzz, and the mobile social network, myGamma. These properties have a combined total audience of five million.

The SDK for BlackBerry contains a function that accurately determines the country and carrier of the BlackBerry user. Applications will be able to retrieve both text and graphical ad banners.

This overcomes a limitation many publishers face when serving ads to BlackBerry users and leads to improved targeting for brands looking to advertise to these users.

KF Lai, CEO of BuzzCity, said: “Developers now have the opportunity to create locally relevant ad-supported applications for BlackBerry. There is a real opportunity here for progressive developers given the increasing global interest that we’re seeing in this type of advertising.”

The option has already been taken up by UberTwitter, a Twitter app for BlackBerry devices.

It was recently used to deliver a campaign promoting a badminton tournament in Indonesia. 9.1 million advertising impressions and a click through rate of almost one per cent were achieved over four days.
