BuzzCity nets $10m funding

Mobile social network specialist secures investment from Naspers.

BuzzCity, the Singapore-based company responsible for the myGamma mobile social network, has secured a $10 million investment from South African media group Naspers.

The company says the funding will help it develop the technology behind its mobile community, as well as to expand its user base in South Africa, India and Thailand, and the continued build-out of its mobile advertising offering.

KF Lai, CEO of BuzzCity, said: "The growth opportunity for off-deck services continues to grow globally. We’ve seen phenomenal growth in markets in South Asia and Africa and in the coming year, we expect to see this growth to include markets in Europe and USA.

”The common footprints we have make this a strategic relationship for developing our media properties, particularly in South Africa, India and Thailand. We look forward to working closely with the group to ramp up our growth."
