Buongiorno reveals first-half financials

Revenues down but net profit up for Italian mobile content giant.

Italian mobile firm Buongiorno has reported a net profit of €4.5 million for the first half of 2009, up 87.5% from the same period last year.

However, that increase appears to be more down to cost reductions than actual revenues: Buongiorno says its revenues fell 16.4% to €132.3 million for the first six months of this year.

More than 90% of these revenues were generated outside Italy, though, showing Buongiorno's global focus matching its biggest rival in the D2C space, Zed.

The company says it has more than 7.6 million subscribers to its "mobile content 1.0" service BlinkoGold, thanks to growth in new markets.

Is there a mobile content 2.0? Yes, according to Buongiorno, which says it's signed up 300,000 subscribers to its peoplesound mobile social network, while also launching mobile apps like Hellotxt.

Interestingly, gaming could be set to play a bigger role for the company going forward. It says it's completed a "validation study of valuable investment opportunities in relation to skill games, m-payment and mobile social gaming".

Finally, Buongiorno says it has finally finished integrating iTouch - the company it bought two years ago - into its main business.
