Bubble Motion takes voice-blogging to Japan with KDDI

Operator is using BubbleBlog platform for its new Koe-Now service.

Bubble Motion's BubbleBlog voice-blogging platform has gone down a storm in India, but now it's expanding into Japan too.

The company has signed a deal with local operator KDDI, which is using BubbleBlog to power its new Koe-Now service.

Voice-blogging? It's a bit like Twitter, except the status updates are published by calling a number and speaking the update.

Users can 'follow' one another, and in India its growth has been fuelled by celebrities using the service. There, BubbleBlog has more than two million users.

"We are proud to be introducing the exciting world of voice-blogging to Japan with today's launch of Koe-Now," says KDDI's director of platforms for consumer business Naoto Itoh.

KDDI has already got on the case with celebs, signing up actors, musicians, comedians and other famous faces (and voices) to use the service.

KDDI will be promoting the service to its 32 million 'au' subscribers. However, crucially, non-KDDI subscribers will be able to follow users of the service, even if they can't voice-blog themselves.

The deal is a significant one for Bubble Motion, since it's a sign that voice-blogging may have a big future in advanced mobile markets, as well as emerging markets like India.
