Move could be prelude to consumer rollout.
BT has launched a line-up of mobile broadband packages for small businesses, leading to suggestions the company could be planning a wider consumer launch in the highly competitive UK market.BT’s new Access Manager software will enable users to automatically access either a BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspot or mobile network (GPRS/3G/HSDPA/HSUPA).
The company's current consumer offering includes just the wi-fi option when on the move.
BT Business Total Broadband options 2 and 3 will include the new mobile broadband connection at no extra charge. It's also available as a standalone option for £17.50 a month (excluding VAT).
The UK mobile broadband market is high-competitive, with all the mobile networks and several third parties offering dongle-based access on the move.
