Brightcove targets iPad video opportunity

Specialist platform provider offers new framework for delivery to HTML5 devices

Brightcove is turning its attention to devices like the iPad with a new framework that delivers interactive and ad-supported web video within an HTML5 environment.

The company has hitherto made its name delivering online video services for content publishers using Flash, which of course Apple doesn't supprt.

The Brightcove Experience for HTML5 provides for device detection, playlist rendering and playback of H.264 encoded video content.

The New York Times and Time Inc are already using the solution to produce iPad-ready websites.

Brightcove says that over the course of the next 12 months it will expand its HTML5 solution to include customisation and branding of the video player, advertising, analytics, social sharing and other capabilities already found in its Flash offering.
