Increases in value from from R$1.8 billion to R$2 billion in three months.
Research by Acision attributed the boost to smartphones and 3G, but added that the per capita value is still below the Latin American and global average.
SMS is still the most popular messaging service in Brazil with an average of 79 per cent of subscribers using the service. However, the report indicates a drop in the use of SMS and a growth in the use of MMS during the last quarter.
Messaging continues to show high use in 14-24 year olds, with an average of 16 SMS sent per day. The cost per SMS in Brazil is currently an average R$0.24, compared with R$0.05 in the US.
Meanwhile four per cent of Brazilian mobile subscribers accessed the mobile internet in the last quarter. And in entertainment terms, ringtones were the most downloaded content in the last three months with 42 per cent of those questioned listening to music on their mobile phones on an average of five times per week.
Only five per cent watch video and just two per cent download clips.

The study reflected a negativity towards mobile marketing: The percentage of subscribers declaring that they had received mobile marketing dropped from 76 per cent in September 2009 to 56 per cent in November 2009 (Sao Paulo). The report also revealed that the majority of these messages were related to promotions offered by the mobile carrier.
