And they're checking in 25 million times a week.

US developer Booyah has announced that it's now signed up more than one million users for its MyTown social location iPhone game.

It only launched in December, so that's good going - averaging 100,000 new users a week. The game is like a real-world Monopoly: players check in to locations a la Foursquare, but can also 'buy' them, upgrade them and charge other players rent.

However, more importantly for a game that's free to download, those players are using it a lot. Booyah says the average user spends more than 65 minutes a day playing MyTown, while the game is registering more than 25 million weekly check-ins.

Meanwhile, more than 40 million virtual items are being "consumed" each week by MyTown players. Which isn't the same thing as being 'bought', but clearly some of them are.

"Reaching the milestone of one million users not only places us in the lead for location-based apps, but it also shows that the genre is entirely compelling for players as well as marketing partners watching the space," says CEO Keith Lee.

"MyTown is starting to define both real-world gaming and the location social app categories."

It's certainly ahead of rivals in the latter category, like Foursquare and Gowalla. For now, MyTown is US-only. ME can only hope that Booyah brings the game to the UK soon, so we can get in on the act.
