And its campaign with H&M was rather successful too.

US social location firm Booyah says its MyTown iPhone game now has 1.4 million users, up from the one million it reported in mid-February.

Co-founder Keith Lee contacted ME with the news on Friday, and he had another impressive stat relating to MyTown's recent virtual items campaign with retailer H&M.

"Our recent one-week H&M campaign scored 750,000 checkins just for H&M alone!" he says. "That's just for the 200 retail locations in the US."

It's an important success for Booyah and the wider social location app genre, for partnerships with retailers and brands are likely to become an important revenue stream for apps like MyTown, Foursquare, Gowalla and their rivals.

Meanwhile, the SXSW Festival in Texas is proving to be something of a battleground for these companies, aided by the fact that the majority of attendees at the interactive part of the festival are using one or more of these apps.

Foursquare registered 347,000 checkins on Saturday, for example, according to a tweet from the company.

Little more than a week ago, the company reported record daily checkins of 275,000.
