Real-world Monopoly gets more game on.

US firm Booyah has released a major update to its MyTown iPhone social location app, adding in-app purchases and more gameplay.

The app offers similar location-based 'checking in' to Foursquare, Gowalla and Rummble. However, it wraps even more of a game around that, letting people 'buy' the locations where they check-in, and then get rent from other players.

It's been compared to a real-world Monopoly, and Booyah announced last week that the app had passed 450,000 registered users - a figure that's been updated to 500,000 in the announcement for the new update.

The new version is even more game-like, with players able to buy power-ups using in-app payments to help them manage their virtual property empire.

Booyah says there are more than 60 hours of extra gameplay in the app, with new levels, property slots and building upgrades, as well as more than 50 new items.
However, MyTown is still US-only - us Brits can't yet get in on the act.
