Booyah launches free iPad scavenger hunt in MyTown

Looking to boost usage of its social location game.

US developer Booyah has launched a Scavenger Hunt contest within its MyTown social location game.

Players can win an iPad for exploring new locations in their local town, finding virtual map pieces and solving riddles.

The Scavenger Hunt kicked off on Friday, and runs for two weeks. It's only open to users in the US, though, despite MyTown having launched in several other countries last week.

The contest is interesting, given the recent stories about rival social location app SCVNGR's success at attracting brands to its own 'trek'-based mechanic - essentially branded scavenger hunts.

By launching its own, Booyah may be setting out its own stall for brands to launch sponsored versions in its game. MyTown currently has more than 2.8 million users.
