BOLT mobile browser officially live

Comes out of beta after eight months to slug it out with Opera et al.

Maker Bitstream says the browser has been downloaded more than two million times, rendering in excess of 200 million Web pages, since the beta release.

BOLT claims to display full web pages 25 to 50 per cent faster than the next fastest mobile browser. It can stream video, copy and paste, upload files such as photos and videos to websites, and arrange favorites into custom folders.

It's also Built in J2ME so it can work on an estimated three billion phones already in the market.

“Eight months ago at Mobile World Congress when we first made BOLT available, we had no set date for when we would emerge from beta,” said Anna Chagnon, president and CEO of Bitstream.

“We were focused on one mission: building the most capable Web browser that could transform virtually any mobile device into a practical Internet tool.  We owe a big debt of gratitude to the loyal BOLT end users who provided invaluable feedback and helped us build for them and others what we believe to be a truly important mobile application.”
