BOLT browses past 20m

Mobile-only browser installed more than 20m times in over 200 countries.

Bitstream's product was launched at Mobile World Congress in February 2009 as a free download for Java feature phones and BlackBerry.

It's picked up some good pre-load deals in that time (with Esia, K-Touch, KC Mobile and others), and also pitched itself as users in emerging markets.

Indeed, BOLT’s users have streamed more than 130m minutes of video, and viewed nearly 2.3bn web pages.

“BOLT is a mobile app that has gained popularity in every corner of the globe,” said Anna Magliocco-Chagnon, CEO of Bitstream.

“It’s fascinating to see how people in markedly different cultures embrace the same types of features and Web destinations no matter where they are accessing the Internet from.

Social networking and video streaming are as popular in Africa and Asia as they are in Europe and North America."
