Bitstream says deal means it won't need to charge for downloads
User of the Bolt mobile browser will soon start seeing targeted ads after Bitstream integrated it with BuzzCity's ad network.
Bitstream says the deal will allow it to create a revenue stream from the browser without interfering with the browsing experience or charging for downloads.
The original Bolt was launched in February 2009, taking on firms like Opera with a product that enabled video streaming, integration with social networking, tabbed browsing and a host of other PC-style browsing features.
Its servers are now rendering 100 million web pages every two weeks, and drawing new users faster than one million every month.
Overall it is now used by more than 7.3 million people in over 200 countries.

Anna Magliocco-Chagnon, CEO of Bitstream, said: “Bitstream has been seeking the right partner for adding advertising to BOLT, and found that regions in which BOLT has its largest numbers of users align perfectly with where BuzzCity’s ad inventories are also strongest. In particular, India and Indonesia, two of BOLT’s largest markets, are countries where BuzzCity delivers the largest number of paid advertisements.”
