Mobile apps from Spotify and rivals won't be quite so freewheelin' as they hoped.
Bob Dylan's back catalogue has been abruptly removed from several streaming music services, seemingly at the request of Dylan's own representatives.
UK streaming service we7 revealed the news and said rivals like Spotify will have received similar takedown orders last week via Dylan's label Sony Music Entertainment.
That means his classic albums (and, indeed, his not-so-classic albums) won't be available through streaming mobile music applications for the forseeable future.
We7's SVP of digital music Clive Gardiner tells Music Ally that it may be a short-term issue rather than a permanent policy.
"There are some artists that will take umbrage at this from time to time. We expect this sort of thing, especially with streaming, and it not being fully understood where it sits yet."

However, it also hints at increased dischord from musicians concerned about the lower royalties they receive from streaming services than downloads.
