Combo of high speed Bluetooth 3.0 and low power Bluetooth 4.0 to drive market upwards
In-Stat says Bluetooth device shipments increased by 23 per cent between 2009 and 2010, but that improvement to the underlying technology will keep the short distance comms medium buoyant.
Bluetooth 3.0 + can transmit large data files while Bluetooth 4.0 supports lower power consumption and therefore works well in medical and fitness devices.
In-Stat expects the latter to hit the mobile phone by the end of this year.
