Blippar, Mobilize and ParcelGenie on UKTI's Smart UK shortlist

Content firms among the 20 competing for UK government support package.

Smart UK aims to highlight innovation in the UK mobile space.

Yesterday, UKTI, which is part of the UK government's business department, invited press and analysts to meet the companies selected from around 80 entrants to its contest.

The shortlisted firms have already won the following:

* A ticket to Mobile World Congress 2012, worth €699
* Pitch training
* Access to an exclusive networking dinner on the eve of Mobile World Congress
* The chance to pitch their innovation to a panel of industry experts at Mobile World Congress as part of UKTI’s programme of events at the event
* Media collateral such as press releases created for Mobile World Congress and included in the official show press pack

The winner will be chosen during MWC by a panel of judges including O2's Mike Short and Eagle Eye's Russell Buckley. It will receive:

* Use of a winner’s logo on company literature
* One day of brand development and UE consultancy from design consultancy TheAlloy
* A showcase at UKTI’s prestigious ICT day in 3rd August 2012

Among those in with a shot are a few firms familiar to ME readers. They include AR specialist Blippar, gift-by-SMS firm ParcelGenie and mobile voucher provider Mobilize.

Others selected include gesture UI firm Pyreous and display tech company Apical.
