44% of all apps sold on its store in the first half of 2009 were for RIM devices.
Handango has published its latest Handango Yardstick report, tracking sales trends on its mobile applications store in the first six months of 2009.
It'll make happy reading for Research In Motion. According to Handango, BlackBerry apps accounted for 44% of all sales during that period, up from 31% in the first six months of 2008.
BlackBerry has thus overtaken Windows Mobile as the most popular smartphone in terms of downloads from the store. However, with RIM's own BlackBerry App World now established, it could have an impact on sales through Handango in the second half of this year.
The other big news is the growth in games, which accounted for 25% of all apps sold through Handango in January-June this year - a sharp rise from its 6% share in the corresponding period last year.
Handango offered more than 1,016 new games in the period covered (this presumably includes multiple versions of individual games for the various platforms though). It says EA Mobile was the most popular publisher.

Meanwhile, Handango CEO Alex Bloom (pictured) took the opportunity to hit out at the downward pressure on app pricing elsewhere in the industry.
"While there's definitely a place for low price-point apps, I believe there's an even bigger opportunity in the mobile media market for quality apps that are built to augment personal and professional productivity, to provide rich forms of entertainment, and to help mobile users get organised, keep fit and stay safe."
