BlackBerry LinkedIn app goes live, but Twitter app slips

March of the Super Apps.

LinkedIn has launched its official BlackBerry app, inviting users of Tour, Bold and Curve smartphones to download it directly, or get it from the BlackBerry App World.

The app was first shown off at Research In Motion's BlackBerry Developer Conference in November.

It digs into the BlackBerry contacts, calendar and messaging, and looks set to become a must-download for business users.

However, there's also some bad news for BlackBerry buffs. RIM's own Twitter for BlackBerry application now WON'T be out of private beta on 31st March, as was recently reported.

CrackBerry has a statement from RIM:

"The March 31st launch date for the public beta of Twitter was prematurely shared at CTIA. The application will not leave its current limited beta in March. As of right now, the launch date hasn't been decided and the team is working to make sure the next release is feature-rich and has a great user experience before opening the app to everyone."

Although the Twitter app also integrates with the BlackBerry inbox, it's been criticised for being a bit light on features compared to rival Twitter clients on BlackBerry, like Seesmic and Ubertwitter.

Apps like LinkedIn and Twitter for BlackBerry are important for RIM, as they're part of the first wave of so-called 'Super Apps', designed to take advantage of BlackBerry's native features.
