BlackBerry App World celebrates third birthday

More than two billion downloads since launch.

RIM's BlackBerry App World has just turned three years old. In that time, the platform has generated more than two billion app downloads, and has a library of over 70,000 apps.

BlackBerry, blogged: "While we’re very proud of the work that has gone into BlackBerry App World, we’re especially appreciative of the tens of thousands of developers that have and continue to create apps for the BlackBerry platform."

The firm highlighted its best-selling paid apps from the last three years, which include:

* BeBuzz – LED Lights And More
* Shazam Encore
* Colour ID
* BeWeather
* Angry Birds (PlayBook only)

BlackBerry App World has been criticised by users for not being able to keep up with the apps provided by Apple and Android.

More recently the firm took heed of the feedback by developing BlackBerry Runtime for Android, which will allow Google developers to port there apps to BlackBerry.
