BBC launches native iPlayer app for BlackBerry

Catch-up TV service now downloadable from RIM's app store.

The BBC has launched a native BlackBerry app for its iPlayer TV catch-up service.

The app, which is free to download, lets users watch and listen to live BBC TV and radio shows, while also watching shows from the last seven days.

It joins the existing BlackBerry-friendly mobile website, although for now the app is only available for the Storm 2, Bold 9700 and Torch 9800 handsets.

Users are advised to use Wi-Fi for 'optimal' viewing experience: interestingly, while 3G is possible, its App World blurb says "the service is also supported by 3 UK and contract on Vodafone".

The developer is Media Applications Technologies, which also developed the BBC News iOS app. It's a BBC subsidiary.
