Fishlabs boss reveals big numbers.

The Barclaycard Waterslide Extreme free iPhone game that was released last year has been downloaded more than 9.8 million times, according to Michael Schade, CEO of its developer Fishlabs.

It's been a long-term success too - it did more than one million downloads over the Christmas period alone, months after its release.

Schade claimed that it's generated more than 650,000 hours of 'brand engagement' for Barclaycard, which commissioned the game as a spin-off from its Waterslide TV ads.

He hopes that other app store owners and operators will be more open to advergames in the coming year.

"We'd like to be on other smartphones with these games in the next year," he said. "Why shouldn't app store owners or operators sell deck placement to brands, and drive traffic with free ad games?"
