Barclaycard racks up 10m free iPhone games downloads

Waterslide Extreme smashes through the milestone.

Barclaycard's Waterslide Extreme iPhone game, which was released last year, has now been downloaded more than 10 million times.

Developer Fishlabs, which worked with Dare on the campaign, announced the news this morning. Two weeks ago at the Mobile Games Forum, Fishlabs boss Michael Schade had revealed the game was on 9.8 million downloads.

Fishlabs says that almost half of all the downloads are from the US, with the UK, France, Canada and Germany the next most popular countries in order.

The game was downloaded more than one million times over Christmas, and is still racking up 40,000 downloads a day on the App Store even now.

Fishlabs says that based on an average playing time of 2.5 minutes and four sessions per player, the game has given Barclaycard an average brand engagement of 100 million minutes.

"Barclaycard's Waterslide Extreme demonstrates the enormous coverage and high attention mobile ad games on the iPhone can generate,", says Schade.

"This is just the beginning. With Android and OVI from Nokia, there will be more channels in the future for emotionally bonding an audience of millions with high quality mobile applications. For global brands, mobile apps should be an integral part of the marketing mix of print, TV, and online advertising."
