Bango trumpets US success for UK mobile content firms

The British are coming! And they're bringing their mobile payment tech with them...

UK-based mobile content firms are generating "millions of dollars a month" in revenues in the US by using Bango's WAP payments platform, the company claims.

It cites Flirtomatic, Mobile Streams and Animation FC as examples of companies who've crossed the pond and profited from Bango's billing. Meanwhile, French mobile games firm Gameloft is also using the technology in the US.

Still, the principle is the important thing: Bango has launched its WAP payments with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile in the US, which it says gives content firms a potential market of more than 150 million consumers.

"The experience of building a direct-to-consumer mobile service in the fiercely competitive UK market is being translated very effectively into the successful launch of these services in the US," says SVP of marketing and alliances Anil Malhotra.

"The numbers in that market are eye-watering for UK companies: each of the top three networks individually gives access to a subscriber base bigger than the whole UK market put together. US consumers have completely bought into browsing from their phones and are hungry for compelling content."
