Bango to offer carrier billing in Canada

Deals take payments firm's reach to 200m North Americans.

The UK company has been offering mobile payments for over ten years, first via SMS and then through direct operator billing with Vodafone in 2004, AT&T in 2005, Orange in 2006, Telefonica in 2007, Sprint in 2008 and T-Mobile in 2009.

Now, by adding Canadian carriers, it has hugely extended its reach in North America.

Bango additionally provides mobile credit card and PayPal for payments that cannot be charged to the carrier bill.

The firm is also active in in-app payments, and offers carrier billing for app developers on the BlackBerry app store. Indeed, this new announcement covers payments via Telus and Rogers for BlackBerry App World

Overall, its platform reaches over 600m paying mobile users worldwide, in 120 countries.

Now, it's targeting more regions and one billion users.

"This year we are opening-up mobile billing in Latin America and key Asian territories, and forecast coverage of one billion paying customers by year end – greater reach than any e-commerce system," said Anil Malhotra, Bango's SVP of marketing.

"Bango self-optimises on-line payment from both smartphones and feature phones, meaning one connection to Bango delivers mobile payment worldwide."
