Bango offers 'on-bill' payments in South Africa

Content providers are now able to charge 42 million South Africans direct to their bill using Bango's system.

UK-based mobile payments specialist Bango has struck deals with South African operators MTN and Vodafone ZA to offer 'on-bill' payments for off-deck mobile content.

Bango says South Africa is ripe for mobile content growth considering that phones are the only means many people have to connect with the internet.

Included in the Bango payment service is the Bango Analytics tool, which collects data about mobile web visitors, such as where traffic is coming from, which network and what handset.

Anil Malhotra, SVP of alliances and marketing at Bango said: "South Africa is embracing off-portal and understands the importance of having an open model. We have direct WAP billing with the leading South African operators to help grow their off-portal services and make it easier for consumers in this top mobile market to pay for mobile content."
