Badoo launches mobile payments with Ericsson IPX

UK users of the dating network get option to make micropayments from the phone bill.

Badoo is a formidably successful social network, with 114m users worldwide.

It lets people flirt and meet other people nearby, and uses a freemium business model to make money.

Hence, users can register, create a profile and upload unlimited images at no cost, but pay for premium features such as ‘Super Powers’, gifts and featured profiles.

Traditionally, these payments have been on credit card or PayPal. Now mobile is on the menu.

Bart Swanson, COO of Badoo, says: “Providing consumers with a mobile payment method for premium services is vital for the success of any freemium based business.

Badoo is available in over 180 countries, and claims to be the second largest Facebook app behind CityVille.
