Winners and runners up from the Samsung event at BAFTA, London.
Samsung partnered with Steel Media to throw the app design gauntlet down in September, inviting students from nine universities across the UK to design an app that was suitable for the bada OS, innovative and commercially viable.
ME was invited along to cover the yesterday's event, which gathered 12 finalists for one last presentation of their app to peers and also a judging panel of industry experts in order to win cash prizes worth £10,000.
The bada journey covered 2,500 miles of travel, a fire scare at Oxford university and a 24-hour codeathon.
Announcing the finalists Chris James, MD, Steel Media, said: "Everything we've seen has been brilliant and we've changed and rechanged the order several times.
"It has been very competitive but ultimately we thought the winner had a really creative product and a great idea, despite the initial technical hiccups."

1st prize of £5,000 went to Quartic Llama, University of Abertay with the Amoeba app.
A scrolling shooter where users must protect their amoeba from enemies. Each rival is a different colour and players can only attack when the background colour matches that of the enemy.
Speaking of the win Quartic Llama, said: "Thanks very much, it has been a really fun event and receiving this is amazing. We're sure our uni will be pleased."

2nd prize of £2,500 went to The Time Is Now, University of York with the Don’t Be Lazy app.
Described as the 'wicked alarm app', Don't Be Lazy is an alarm clock that requires the user to complete a series of games before they can stop the alarm from beeping, thus preventing them from oversleeping.
The Time Is Now, said: "Thank you people of the world and the UK. It was really interesting to try and create something for mass appeal by considering what would cater to the public."
3rd prize of £1,500 went to Razvan, King’s College London with the Doodle Fight app.
The user is required to doodle a character and accompanying weapon with their finger, which can then be uploaded online to do combat with other characters made by users.
University prize of £1,000 went to the University of Abertay as a result of Quartic taking home the gold.
James closed the event by saying: "Thanks to Samsung and all the developers for taking part in the challenge. We will be back again next year, stay tuned."
Keith O'Brien, head of mobile content, Samsung, said: "A big thank you to everyone. Its been two years in the making and we're very pleased with the way its gone.
"Samsung can expect big things, having gone from eight percent in January 2011, up to 25 per cent by the end of the year for the smartphone share of the market. As a little teaser for next year's competition, you can expect tablets and TVs to be incorporated."
