Babelgum grabs Funny or Die mobile rights

Online TV firm Babelgum has signed a mobile licensing deal with web comedy outfit Funny or Die.

The deal means Babelgum will be able to stream Funny or Die's catalogue of videos to mobile users, as part of a wider two-year exclusive agreement.

That includes Will Ferrell's The Landlord videos, the first episode of which has been watched more than 63 million times online.

The content is likely to pop up first in Babelgum's mobile application, which so far is available for iPhone and iPod touch, Android handsets and selected Nokia smartphones.

Online TV industry site Tubefilter, which reported the news, thinks the deal is important because the app is missing "a deep library of short form content".

It's interesting that Funny or Die didn't choose to make its own iPhone app, however. There's been an increase recently in the number of apps delivering TV and video.
