Aussie content biz educates consumers

Australia's mobile content industry unites to educate consumers and drive growth.

The Australian Interactive Media Industry Association has launched an education and information campaign designed to 'demystify' mobile content and services.

Dubbed 'You Can On A Mobile', the initiative is built around the www.youcanonamobile.com.au, which organisers say will evolve according to the needs of consumers.

The campaign is the result of collaboration between a cross section of companies in the mobile content industry, including Ideal Interfaces, My247.com.au, HWW, News Limited, TigerSpike, WDS Global, Optus, Vodafone, Fairfax, ninemsn, Bigpond, 3, MIA International and VentureOne.

Seed funding for the campaign was provided by ninemsn, Bigpond and 3 Australia.

Chris Noone, chairman of the You Can On A Mobile campaign and mobile director of ninemsn, said: "Our aim is to empower people to make smart choices about the mobile content they consume and explain the range and type of services available. By educating people we will encourage the growth of this important new information and entertainment channel.

"We wish to avoid the problems encountered by the internet industry, where people were confused by the new technology, and have decided to take responsibility for presenting a clear and concise education message to all consumers."
