US content publisher Sorrent has acquired the mobile rights to the iconic PC game Baldur’s Gate from Atari. The deal follows a similar agreement that led to Sorrent publishing a Java and Brew version of the console hit Driv3r.

The Baldur's Gate franchise, owned by Wizards of the Coast (a subsidiary of Hasbro), became a cornerstone of the role-playing genre on PC and has lifetime sales of more than 2 million units worldwide.

“We're extremely pleased to create and publish Baldur’s Gate on mobile phones,” said Greg Ballard, president and CEO of Sorrent. “There’s already significant anticipation for this game among fans of the series. This agreement further enhances our portfolio of entertainment applications to meet the demands of today’s diverse mobile audience.”
