US operator says it has a great many Apple-y things up its sleeve, like an iPhone that can start your car.
AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega has set down a framework of the kinds of apps future versions of iPhone could be running on its network. The types of functionality under consideration include remote activation of household equipment, locking doors, vocal news reports, starting a car and automatic real time translation services.
The comments were made at the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco, where AT&T also announced ongoing moves to integrate Apple's handset with its U-Verse VoIP and IPTV services.
“We’re looking at the whole landscape, of what people use, and what's out there in the home,” said AT&T Chief Technology Officer John Donovan.
