AT&T pilloried for lack of iPhone 3G S support

US operator not offering users MMS or tethering at launch.

The knives are out for AT&T, which will not be supporting two of the most anticipated new iPhone features Apple is introducing with iPhone 3G S and the iPhone 3.0 OS upgrade.

Specifically, the abilities to send MMS and 'tether' the device to a laptop or desktop computer to create an internet connection are off limits for the time being, much to the displeasure of the Apple blogosphere.

The operator also doesn't yet support the 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity the iPhone 3G S is capable of, and won't be able to until later this year.

Displeasure towards AT&T was also vocalised during Apple's keynote presentation  at the WWDC yesterday.

For its part AT&T has since stated that it will be able to offer MMS to iPhone users in late summer, once it has upgraded its systems, and tethering once it has sorted its business models.
