Also a new business unit to focus on emerging devices and markets.
The Associated Press has confirmed that it plans to launch a paid news app for Apple's iPad tablet, as part of its push to switch to charging models for its online news.
AP's chief revenue officer Jane Seagrave told a conference that tablet users will be more willing to pay for content than web users, according to the Financial Times.
The organisation's free iPhone news app has been downloaded more than 3.5 million times so far, but Seagrave hinted that it too may move to a charging model in the future.
Meanwhile, AP has launched a new business unit called AP Gateway, which will develop new apps and digital business models for both the AP itself, and its local media affiliates.
"At last, we truly will be able to deliver the right content to the right people at the right time to the right device," CEO Tom Curley told the conference.
