ARM has unveiled its latest and greatest mobile processor design in the form of the 2.4GHz Cortex-A15 Mpcore 'Eagle'.
The UK-based company says the chip template will lead to the creation of a new generation of 'super smartphones' with up to five times better content and performance than current devices.
Chip makers already licensing the Cortex-A15 design include Texas Instruments, ST-Ericsson and Samsung, with devices likely to start appearing in 2013.
ARM has also moved to offset the inevitable questions about battery life, stating that the chip will be efficient enough for battery life to last a full day.
Mike Inglis, EVP and GM of the Processor Division at ARM, said: “The launch of the Cortex-A15 MPCore processor marks the beginning of an entirely new era for the ARM Partnership. It brings together more than 20 years of ARM expertise in low-power design with a host of new and very aggressive high-performance technologies.
