Chipset-maker ARM says demand for HD mobile entertainment in Asia is helping it to strike deals there.
Specifically, it's inked two new agreements for its Mali GPU technology with Asian companies: Chinese semiconductor firm Rockchip, and South Korean vendor Telechips.
The details are fairly technical, but it's the demand for this technology that's interesting: ARM and its partners say that high-definition video and gaming are driving the mobile entertainment market in Asia, and fuelling demand for handsets with more grunt inside.
"The Mali-200 GPU brings cutting-edge user interfaces and navigation experiences to devices, fulfilling the increasing demands of consumers," says Jang-Kyu Lee, COO and VP at Telechips, by way of explanation.
ARM has now signed 22 licensing deals for its Mali GPUs.
