Archos to unveil Android tablet and app store

At least one multimedia tablet is guaranteed to turn up in September then...

Archos will unveil its Android-powered web tablet on 15th September at an event in Paris, according to an invite sent out by the company to journalists.

Sporting the instantly recognisable logo of Google's mobile OS, it follows Archos' announcement earlier this year that it was working with the Android platform on an upcoming multimedia device.

The as-yet unnamed tablet will even have its own app store – NOT Android Market, but something called AppsLib, which will offer a mixture of apps and games for this and other high-end Android gadgets.

Pocketables reports that guidelines on the AppsLib site hint at a five-inch touchscreen, HD video support (including an HDMI output), and support for OpenGL graphics. The latter element may make mobile games developers prick up their ears.

When Archos first announced its Android plans in February this year, it also promised a full web browser including Flash support, 500GB of storage, seven-hour battery life and a built-in 3.5G modem.

The September launch event may reveal the first mobile operator partner to sell the device, which we're assuming will be a French carrier.
