April is 'cross-platform development' month on the ME site

A special focus on the firms making it easy to 'build once, deploy anywhere.'

Ever since the earliest days of mobile content, developers have complained of fragmentation. This is the problem of having tens, hundreds, sometimes thousands of SKUs to build for, if you want your product to reach all mobile users.

iOS helped, but now the many flavours of Android is exacerbating the problem once again. And when you take into account languages and APIs, the cost and time spent making one app can go sky high.

To address this, are a growing number of companies have services that can adapt one code base for multiple mobile platforms.

They are flourishing in an app economy in which brands and enterprises are lining up alongside more traditional content providers.

However there are important differences between these services. Some specialise in gaming, others retail. Some put mobile commerce at the heart of the offering. Others focus on HTML5.

It can be confusing.

Hence this ME 'special focus' featuring interviews, company profiles and more.

We'll sift through the different offerings to show which companies are active in the space, and what their specialities are.
