Appsfire raises $3.6m in Series A funding for app recommendations

Company's apps have been downloaded more than 2m times so far.

App discovery startup Appsfire has announced a Series A funding round worth $3.6 million, led by French VC Idinvest Partners.

The company's apps have been downloaded more than two million times, and Appsfire says these apps are generating more than three million 'leads' to apps in Apple's App Store and Google's Android Market every month.

The company is growing on two fronts. Its apps are used by iOS and Android owners to discover new apps, based on what's popular on the stores, but also what's trending in their country, and among their friends.

Meanwhile, Appsfire is also working with app developers and publishers to promote their apps, including the likes of Canal+, Spotify, Barnes & Noble, Paramount Pictures and King.com. It also works with partners like Orange, iDigital, Feedly and the city of Paris on their own app discovery services.

"We are delighted to work with Idinvest Partners and move to the next level” says co-founder Ouriel Ohayon, “Our unique position in the market as a service for consumers and a platform for developers allows us to answer the complex needs of finding and promoting applications, the predominant format for consuming content on a mobile device.”

Appsfire says it plans to use the funding injection to hire new business development and engineering staff, while giving its soon-to-launch SDK a push. Ohayon also says Appsfire is planning to expand beyond iOS and Android to other mobile platforms.
