Appsfire awards garland best iPhone apps

Games, utility and entertainment winners announced in App Star contest.

iPhone app recommendations firm AppsFire has named the winners of its App Star Awards, which were presented at the Le Web conference in Paris.

The awards were launched to spotlight the best unreleased iPhone apps, meaning that the three winners and three runners-up aren't from the usual list of prizewinning applications.

The two best iPhone games were winner Sketch Nation from Engineous Games - which lets people create their own games by drawing a player, enemies and a level on a piece of paper and then photographing it - and Extreme Sheepdog Trials.

The best utility was Here FileFile from Skylight Apps, which lets people access files stored on their Macs from their iPhones. The runner-up was baby-diary BabyBubbles.

Meanwhile, Entertainment category winner Cookmate is an app that helps people cook up meals from a random selection of items found in their fridges. The runner-up was e-reader app Issuu Mobile.
