The US International Trade Commission says HTC infringed on two Apple patents. This is an 'initial determination' and HTC is appealing against it to the ITC’s six commissioners.
The patents cover "system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data" awarded in 1999.
Basically, it's all to do with activating phone functions using a finger-operated touchscreen.
The ramifications are worrying for all Android OEMs as Apple noted in its filing that Android contains an "analyser server" for "detecting structures in the data" and further details that align with the outline of its patent.
This case is just one of many in a spaghetti soup of lawsuits between smartphone makers.
