What will it mean for developers?
Apple has stayed characteristically silent about its plans for mobile advertising, since buying mobile ad network Quattro Wireless.
However, a job posting indicates that the company is planning to integrate advertising into the iPhone SDK in the near future.
Apple is recruiting an iPhone Advertising SDK Manager to "work on supporting next generation mobile advertising" by managing "a talented team of developers working on the frameworks included in the iPhone SDK".
Integrating ads into the iPhone SDK itself is a logical move, although the job posting is likely to spark more questions about whether app developers will be forced to use Apple's own ad units, rather than those from non-Apple ad networks like AdMob.
With Google buying AdMob and Research In Motion working on its own API for aggregating ad units for BlackBerry developers, it seems smartphone platform owners are keen to have more control over the ads being used in apps for their platforms.

It's an ever-evolving environment though, as the Apple job ad makes clear: "We need someone who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities."
